By Damilola Odelola

This is an important published debut from a fresh new voice whose poetry takes a surprisingly mature slant on contemporary street-life. Harsh reality and stark emotion inflect these poems, the centrepiece being the taut Lost & Found sequences where a wonderful sense of anticipation keeps the reader guessing. Lost & Found is Poetry Book Society's Autumn Pamphlet Choice, to be featured in the Winter Bulletin.

Damilola Odelola is a young British poet and software developer. Her interests in race, culture and identity are reflected in her poetry and work as a developer. She runs an organisation, Blackgirl.tech, which aims to help bridge the racial and gender gap in technology.

Our contemporary poetry needs more of the Shocka, Seun and open missives to the boys who hold court outside McDonald’s that Odelola brings to life on these pages. Her voice is bold, with much to offer – a voice that speaks to and of contemporary Black Britain. She deserves to be heard. – Jacob Sam-La Rose
