Richard Kemp’s second pamphlet, Tyres and Driveways, is about the sea, wine gums and crazy golf. It is about summer, tall grass and coke cans, and oil stained roads. It is about watching the light cast in a front room move from one wall to the other.

Richard Kemp was born in 1970 and grew up in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex. He studied psychology, and then art at Central Saint Martins, graduating in 1997. He did an MA in Education and Writing at Sussex University before undergoing many years of counselling training. He now works as a counsellor in the NHS. Richard’s first pamphlet Football on Waste Ground was published by Smiths Knoll in 2006.

"Richard Kemp’s poems find hard beauty in arcades and pound shops, trash and rust, and the eerie glare of just-past-midnight streets. His gift is to take what we thought we knew and invest it with a cinematic opulence. These are tremendous poems – tough but redemptive."
